Our Horses
Calin and Kham
Kosmos, the first horse of the Epona foundation, got company in the form of Calin and Kham. They came to La Chevrie, our farm in Normandy, in April 2010.
This year Kham (the right one in the photo) will be twenty-eight years old. The Appaloosa became blind some years ago. We were surprised at how quickly this clever little fellow felt at home at La Chevrie (please look at the video on the home page). He always found the water and never missed his food bucket. Calin, the big brown French trotter (twenty-one years old) was always at this side and showed him the way.
They both participated in the first EquiYoga workshop that the Epona Foundation organized at La Chevrie. They allowed the students to brush, caress, massage and pet them all over. With lots of sensibility and patience they followed people who never had led a horse in their life. Calin carried even some EquiYogis on his back and in spite of his daunting tallness he was soon the darling of the group. Everybody wanted to be carried by him and some doubtful wrinkles disappeared soon and made place for a big smile and a wonderful feeling produced by being so close and in harmony with such a big animal.
Kosmos
Mascot of the Foundation is Kosmos, the first horse to have been taken in. Kosmos is an eleven-year old standard-bred which was brought in from Turin, Italy. We consider him a special horse and his name a beacon for the future of the Foundation. He ran in 85 races in Germany and Italy from 2002 till 2007. He was placed 40 times and won 33 of the races. When he was no longer able to race his trainer, Marina Vietgen, bought him from his owner and donated him to the Epona Foundation. He is our good-luck horse.
